So it's been a while since I posted anything, and well - I am just fine. Aimee and I are still working on getting into a consistent routine, but every time I think we're close she decides to trick me. 

She STILL does not like to sleep in her crib. The other night Greg and I were both frustrated (she had been fussing for an hour). We put her in her crib and she started screaming. Greg used to tell me, "Emily we just need to let her cry it out." After about 45 seconds Greg went and got her. 

She's been especially fussy the last few days. I wonder if

 she's going to start teething soon or something.

Obamamath: 100-30 = 95?

I was reading an article about Obama's tax plan and got so frustrated that I needed a forum in which to vent. When you hear the Obama talking pieces on the news or associates who are so eager to be ignorant as to the most simplistic economic principles, ask yourself the following question. If 30% of people in America pay no income tax, how will 95% of Americans receive a tax break? You cannot get a tax break if you pay no taxes. Obama's campaign is, at best, parsing words when they use tax break. More realistically they are using an outright lie to deceive those who are too uneducated or apathetic to form a cogent thought. What the campaign is promising is a break alright, they are promising to break off a piece of other people's paychecks and 'redistribute the wealth' with no requirement on how or where the money is spent (not that that makes stealing other people's money okay). After the initial outcry the Obama campaign has made some superficial modifications to the plan, but still, it is in essence Marxism. That's right, I said it...MARXISM. If you deny it it is because you do not understand what Marxism is, or you want it and are afraid that if you are found out then the most unqualified candidate in the history of theses United States would lose in a route. The idea that 95% of people receive a tax cut is so absurd that anyone who believes it should be placed in the stocks in town square. Worse yet, if someone believes this they deserve to experience the economic crisis that an Obama administration will bring. Dick Morris, former Bill Clinton top advisor explained how the Clinton administration was able to balance the budget. He explained that neither increased taxes nor social programs got them any closer. It was when the administration decided to cut capital gains taxes from 28% down to 20% that the budget finally moved and eventually balanced. Under the George W. Bush tax cuts the government saw over 300 billion dollars in increased revenues---by cutting taxes, not raising them you idiot liberals. Under Jimmy Carter, Obama's mentor, the raising of taxes caused unemployment to surpass 10%, inflation over 20%, and shortages on gasoline. For the love of Buddah, a freaking misery index had to be created to gauge how miserable people were during that era! How many times must you be run over by the intellectually inferior bus before you decide to get out of the way? The valid criticisms of the current administration is that it has acted like one of those liberal pedestrians in the path of the stupid bus. The spending of this administration only elucidates the point that Obama should not only not be near any elected office, but also his own wife should make sure he does not have access to their personal checking accounts.
In all fairness, Barack Obama does not form his policy, he is any empty suit, a cipher who his staff has successfully absconded from public scrutiny. His own ideas are too idiotic to get him into the president's office, so they have made up some temporary views according to what people want to hear. This is why he was, for so long, such an inept public speaker, he had no idea what he was espousing. Unfortunately for clear thinking people across America, he got a handle on his temporary philosophies in time for the debates and actually sounded like he believed the garbage to which he had suddenly become a convert. An Obama victory on November fourth means one thing and one thing only. That is that the diluted, dishonest, disingenuous, and delusional will have become the voting majority. I am afraid for the reality check this country will face when that sad majority finds that Obama will not provide everyone a magical flying unicorn that will carry them to the end of the rainbow where they will find their own personal pot of leprechaun gold.

Labor of Love

Wow. I just finished a whole post when I lost the internet connection. I posted all these pictures and everything. I really don't want to do it all over again.

So here is the condensed version:

Jen, thanks for suggesting bakerella.com. That lady has some super cute stuff. I opted to try and make those cake pop things. Also, Lynne, I think you made a version of these for Laura's baby shower (I wasn't there, but Roxanne saved some for me and they were super tasty).

Here's the jist of how you make them:

Bake a cake, then destroy it

Mix the destroyed cake with some frosting

Roll that stuff up into balls, roll the balls into "logs" (this part was super sticky) 

Squish the logs into a flower shaped cookie cutter (make it look like a cupcake - not an easy task, they just look like turds - I was pretty discouraged at this point)

Dip the "cupcake" into some melted chocolate, then stick it on a lollipop stick (again, very messy)

Dip again in some more chocolate (this part was a little easier)

Decorate (the fun part)

The end result was super cute, and I think they went for around $50 at the ward auction. But let me just tell you - they took FOREVER! The looked so bad initially. They were sticky and when I dipped the "cupcakes" in the melted chocolate, sometimes I couldn't get them out. I got a lot of chocolate all over myself - and ate a lot of it too. Also, I overheated the first batch of chocolate I melted and totally ruined it. I had to run to the store to get more... lots of things seemed to go wrong with the process. BUT, like I said, they turned out pretty cute in the end. 

Proposition 8

We live in a time that is a fulfillment of the Book of Mormon.  Judges and secret combinations conspire to set at naught the things of God and his people.  Just as this country was set up to be a place free from opression of belief, it was also set up to be a place for free excercise of belief.  We must not be drawn into the falsehood of a tyranny of tolerance.  This says you must accept the lifestyle and decision making of any person, regardless of the impact it has on you and your family.  In California the tyranny of tolerance is in full swing.  I want to address the motive of this false religion.  There is no altruism or goodwill behind opponents of proposition 8.  Those force their minority ideas on the majority are in the game of gaining, maintaining, and expanding power, like the conspiring figures of corrupt history.  Those who actually engage in the lifestyle seek for mankind to legitimize an illegitimate lifestyle.  Just as much as it is the right of an individual to choose to express themselves the way they want, it is the right of all.  As Californians voted to preserve the institution of marriage between a man and a woman, they were overturned by 4 individuals.  The California Supreme Court is more akin to the Trix rabbit who says, "Sorry voters, decision making is for judges," than a body of legal experts.  And let me get out one final thought directed towards members of the LDS faith.  There can be no justification to oppose this measure.  There seems to be a disease infiltrating the church sponsored universities that finds its way into the hearts of those seeking for a way to avoid conformity with eternal teachings.  A few weeks ago I read an article in the BYU newspaper from a member of the BYU faculty expressing that because the church takes no position on the subject of abortion then it is not incorrect, doctrinally speaking, to be in favor of abortion rights.  The same exists on the issue of Prop 8.  I hear doctrinally immature students and faculty alike justify their secular positions by saying they do not mix religion and politics.  I say that if the two are contrary then you are attempting to serve two masters.  Eventually you will come to hate at least one.  President Hinckley pleaded with us to be smart, prayerful, and humble to God and his servants.  The call is issued.  A living prophet has foretold of the consequences of disobedience to God's commands.  Like father Lehi, Samuel the Lamanite, and Nephi of old we have been warned.  There is no reason for us to incur the wrath of a just God right now.  The economy sucks enough as it is.  Visit the new church site Preservingmarriage.org for more information, oress releases, and testimonials.

We are having a ward auction and Greg signed us up to bring a dessert. I need some ideas! It's this Friday. Keep in mind I'm no pro in the kitchen, so the difficulty level needs to be relatively low. BUT should also be tasty enough (and pretty enough) that someone would actually bid on it.

Pass the Nyquil

We are all sick. 

Aimee got a cold a few days ago - when your baby is sick, it's so sad! Her nose started out so runny, and now she's super congested. She has a hard time eating because she can't breathe well through her nose. I just wanted to take it away from her, but instead she decided to share. Last night Greg and I both got hit with it. AND Aimee decided to wake up at 4:20 and stay awake until 6. She's starting to feel better and had slept so much the day before. When she woke up she was super happy and chatty. It was kind of cute. 

Anyway, now we all have it. Greg's parents are coming to visit this weekend - hopefully they won't get it too! 

I did take Aimee to the doctor today. I can tell she's feeling a lot better, but in my "What to Expect: The First Year" book, it says you should take your baby to the doctor if it's their first cold. Her ears and throat look good, so that was a relief. I was told that I can basically take tylenol and drinks lots of fluids. What I really want is some strong cough syrup and a long nap. 

Sigh.

Also, I've been meaning to post this funny picture of Aimee in the tub. She threw her little leg and arm over the side all by herself! She loves baths (and showers!)! In this picture she is totally kicking it - I covered her up to keep her modest (I think you can get in trouble for posting nakey pics). She would chill in the tub for days if I let her! She always gets mad when I take her out. 

Oh yeah! So she got weighed at the doctor's office. The poor thing is only 12 lbs, 14 oz. String bean!
